It’s not always possible to deliver exactly what is needed. Things can change while the project is still under construction. The door that SteelBlue has brought to the self-storage industry has many revolutionary design aspects. From the new square hood design with the pre-hung door, to the unique locking panels, to the incredibly effective and simple tensioning bracket, our newest door on the market is awesome.  

However, most important to SteelBlue is our manufacturing and production team. I had the good fortune recently to visit the manufacturing facility and was blown away by the attitude displayed by the team working at the Frankfort facility.  

The entire team in Kentucky are proud and excited to produce the doors we are putting out in the market. They all exemplify the company core values our leadership has put forth. Their commitment to doing their work for the betterment of the entire team was nothing short of inspiring.

To repay their commitment, the leadership and sales team met in Frankfort to celebrate their first “100 Doors Manufactured” day. We were all there to barbecue and sit together to congratulate them on their accomplishment. Since that time, it has become a regular occurrence, but without reaching and acknowledging these milestones we wouldn’t be able to service your company in a fashion to which we hope you become accustomed to.

Innovative packaging  

Until now the industry had been unable to come up with an efficient and safe way to package the doors for shipment. With the innovative square hood design, we have solved the problem.  

The days of doors being stacked like cordwood on a pallet and crushing the bottom doors in the stack are gone.  

Our new door design allows us to stack the doors and the actual curtain is suspended, never touching another door curtain in transit. The time and cost of replacing doors damaged in shipping is gone.  

With that, unlike our competition, we don’t have to factor in the additional cost for replacement doors to be built and shipped at the end of a project.  

Enhanced design  

The step design on the door drum with the thick foam rubber is truly innovative. The thought of using a narrower drum with thick foam to cushion the curtain between the hard surface was genius. Any outward dents from pressure against the drum are eliminated.  

To be able to effectively use the box hood design to pre-hang the doors, expedite installation and eliminate shipping damage shows the amount of thought and level of experience that went into the design of the door.  

The panel design is truly unique to the storage industry. Being able to differentiate ourselves from all others and create a design that is our own was the target. But it couldn’t just be different, it had to be effective and aesthetically pleasing.  

It is a folded panel that sleeves together much the same way a commercial slatted door works. Once the panels are integrated with one another a single screw is installed on each end just to keep the panels from shifting. The interlocking design is more than adequate structurally to keep the panels from separating.  

The design was a complete home run!    

Simplified installation  

Competitors’ overall installation time is longer than ours. To make this process more efficient, our doors come with as much of the hardware pre-installed as possible.  

Now, we only have to attach the guides to the innovative square hood plates, lean the doors into the openings, and fasten them to the jambs. We save time over the life of the project installation, which helps our customers see results more quickly.
