Can you tell us a bit about yourself? Where you grew up, interests, other bits about your life.

I'm Brad, born and raised in the rural area of Clarksburg, PA. I spent much of my time playing baseball and racing motocross, a passion I pursued for 15 years until a series of accidents led to its end. After graduating from Penn State with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, my focus turned towards being the best father I could be, especially as my son is now following in my footsteps and studying to be a Civil Engineer. Over recent years, I've taken up mountain biking and road cycling as a way to unwind and escape from the stresses of daily life. I've amassed a collection of four bikes, and I'm not planning on stopping there.

What role do you have at SteelBlue? When did you start? What is your day to day like?

As the first employee and the Director of Engineering at SteelBlue, my day is usually a whirlwind of activity. I'm often pulled in many different directions, answering questions, producing drawings, and providing the information my colleagues need to do their jobs. Although it can be a bit hectic, I find it both fun and rewarding. I used to travel frequently to the plant, but now I mainly work from home and in our Pittsburgh office.

What is one thing that people would be surprised to know about your job?

There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes at my job. From collaborating with colleagues to brainstorming with the COO/CEO, we're always working to create prototypes and come up with innovative ideas to differentiate SteelBlue in the marketplace.

SteelBlue has several core values: Safety, Collaboration, Transparency, Inclusion, and Evolution. Can you tell us which one resonates with you the most and why?

Out of SteelBlue's core values of Safety, Collaboration, Transparency, Inclusion, and Evolution, I resonate most with Collaboration. Being new to the storage/door industry, I lean on the expertise of my seasoned colleagues to perform my duties effectively.

What is the company culture like for you at SteelBlue?

The culture at SteelBlue is easy-going. We're a great team, and we all work well together, striving towards the company's goals. I really appreciate the efforts made by management to create a fun and engaging work environment.

Can you tell us about a moment of pride that you felt while working for the company?

One of my proudest moments was seeing an idea, initially sketched on the back of a napkin, come to life and make its way into the marketplace. I'm particularly proud of the design of the current tensioner on SteelBlue's door. Seeing something I've created out in the world, and even working towards a patent for it, is truly an amazing feeling.

If you could swap roles with anyone at SteelBlue for a day, who would it be and why?

Honestly, I wouldn't want to swap roles with anyone at SteelBlue. I believe that everyone has been brought onto the team for their unique skills and expertise, and swapping roles would impact our team's peak performance

Which work benefit or perk is your favorite and why?

My favorite work perk is the ability to work from home. The flexibility allows me to be more productive, especially when I can sit with my music cranked up and without the constant interruptions that come with being in the office or plant. Plus, living in the country, the drive to Pittsburgh and Kentucky can be a bit much!

What are some fun facts about you that people should know about?

I'm very organized and like things to be clean and neat. I love working on vehicles and bikes, and as the CADD guy, I always draw things up before I build them, no matter what it is.
